| community on hiatus |
[03 Jun 2006|02:20pm] |
|
Um, yeah, this community is going on hiatus for a while. It's not closing, though I don't know exactly when I'll be reopening it or anything. Basically, I've lost interest, clearly most of y'all have lost interest, and I'm a little too busy with other commitments right now to be devoting time and energy in projects I'm not currently interested in. So, yeah. If you have completed challenges responses, either to this one or past challenges, please do post them whenever you finish them--just don't be looking out for new challenges in the near future.
Ta!

| deadline extension |
[21 May 2006|04:55am] |

I'm extending the deadline for the most recent challenge until next Sunday. So the, um, two of you that are affected by that get some extra time. Of course you can also post sooner, if you like, but the time's there if you (like me) need it.

| Signs in the Stars: An Apocalyptic Fic Fest: Sign-ups! |
[20 Apr 2006|11:52pm] |
|
Yeah, so I'm kind of sad about the turnout from the last fest, particularly considering that [a] not even all of the few people who signed up turned in a fic, and [b] like...nobody has commented on anything that WAS submitted, but...eh. I like writing so I guess I'll just keep these going, mostly just for me. As such:
Signs in the Stars: An Apocalyptic Fic Fest That's right, another "it's the end of the world as we know it" challenge, because I like them.
This time around you will NOT be writing fics based on other people's requests--rather, give me a list of between 3 and 9 fic ideas, with as little or as much information as you like (anything from "nuclear disaster Elena/Stefan" to "Ash and Quinn hiding in a bunker while soldiers search diligently for them because they just may have summoned up an ancient world-eating evil") and I'll pick one. The only fic requirements, aside from the usual minimum word count, is that it be set during, or just before or just after, the end of the world/the apocalypse/an extreme world-altering disaster.
All comments will be screened. Sign-ups end next Friday, April 28th, at which time I'll pick one of your ideas, and you'll have three weeks to write it. Sound good? Then sign up!

| Cassie Fic Fest: Assignments. |
[19 Feb 2006|09:05pm] |

Yeah, so the idea was to post assignments publicly, but I forgot that and e-mailed them to y'all. So, just to keep things according to plan, here are the assignments. Your username's above whatever you're supposed to write. Remember: the preferred rating is only a guideline (you don't have to stick to it), you only have to include one of the relationships, it can be any kind of relationship as long as it's a primary focus in the fic, and you only have to include three of the six requested things. Please refer to the userinfo for other requirements like minimum word count etc. Fics are due on Sunday, March 19th. If you have any questions, drop them here or e-mail them to me. Have fun!
aethyrkitten: preferred rating: n/a three pairings/relationships: Cassie/Faye, Cassie/Sean, Cassie/Deborah six things you want: A canon-worthy Cassie. A canon-worthy opposite character. | just so y'all know... |
[16 Feb 2006|09:09pm] |
|
There are two days left for signups for the Cassie fest, and only three people (including me) have signed up. So this is just a little nudge, for anyone who wanted to participate but hasn't gotten around to it, and also a reminder that even people who haven't read SC can participate and I will think up some little mini-fest for you that you can write for.
Even with three people writing, this fest will still run, by the way, but more people would be...well, really nice.

| My Desire: A Cassie Blake Fic Fest: Sign-ups! |
[11 Feb 2006|10:55pm] |
|
Okay, so, I just really really like Cassie Blake as a character. Yeah, she's naive and kind of mousy, but I think that makes her even more interesting, because nobody really knows Cassie--not even Cassie. The title of this fic fest is taken from two sources--First, her little spell from the book: Sky and sea, keep harm from me. Earth and fire, bring my desire. Second, from a poem by Ono no Komachi:
When my desire grows too fierce I wear my bedclothes inside out dark as the night's rough husk.
That's not necessarily meant to be inspiration for your fics. It just made me think of Cassie, quietly secretly passionate Cassie, and I thought I'd post it.
If you want to write a Cassie fic, fill out this info and comment here with it. All comments are screened for anonymity. This form is about what you want written, not what you want to write.
preferred rating: (If you don't care, say so. Whoever gets your request is not required to stick to this.) three pairings/relationships: (You may not specify that a relationship must be friendship/sexual/rivalry/etc. The person writing for you only has to choose one 'ship from this list, but can use more too. If you want an all-Cassie fic, say "none.") six things you want: (List absolutely anything here except relationships. The person writing for you must include three of these things.) one thing you don't want: (Anything except a specific relationship. The person writing for you must not include this thing.)
Although, as I've said, all requests will have no names attached to them, there is no veil of secrecy over this fic fest. You are free to talk about what you asked for, and of course what you are writing (which won't be a secret anyway) as much or as little as you wish.
Sign-ups for this fest will end on Saturday, February 18th, and sign-ups will be sent out the next day. All fics for this fest will be due on Sunday, March 19th.
Finally: Apologies to those of y'all who haven't read The Secret Circle books. If you haven't, you may still be able to join in the fun. Comment to this entry telling me what books you have read. If more than one of you does so, I'll do my best to give y'all a mini-fest that allows for your, um, "LJS handicap."
Have fun! Tell your friends!

| a sort-of grand reopening! |
[11 Feb 2006|10:19pm] |
|
Okay, so this community's been in a comatose state for a while. Sorry. Basically, the format of how things worked here had somehow become (except for the remix challenge, which I loved, and which we'll definitely repeat sometime soon) much too much like ljs100 than I'd planned, or wanted, and it took me a while to remember exactly what I had wanted, and get it all figured out for y'all.
Basically: this community was supposed to be more like a ficathon or a Secret Santa than it ended up being. So that's what it's going to be now. Differences: it'll be an odd combination between the two. Other formats, like remixes or other unusual challenge-type things, will sometimes be thrown in.
I think the new structure will be more inspiring, because it's less "pick-and-choose" and more "grab bag." It's also more binding, because it's more participatory. I've decided not to monitor who turns in their fics and who doesn't, because, honestly, it'll just annoy me and stress me out--but people should be mature enough to feel a responsibility to finish fics that other people are waiting to read. If you can't, or you're late, well. Just feel bad about it, okay?
So: to quote the userinfo, which remains virtually unchanged otherwise:Although there will occasionally be some deviation from format, the general procedure will be: one week of sign-ups, in which people who want to participate will post (screened) comments listing their requests (meaning what they want written, not what they want to write). When sign-ups have ended, everyone gets assigned another person's (anonymous) requests, and has a month to write a fic in response.
To clarify, since we haven't done this before: You will be assigned requests from other people, but except in cases where it's necessary, like a remix, you will not know where that request came from. Unless someone tells you after your fic is posted. Which they are not required to do.
This is sort of a trail-run. We'll do a few of these, and if I feel like there isn't enough interest, I'm just closing the community. That isn't a threat, just, well, the truth. So if you like the format, sign up. Post. Comment on other people's stuff. If there are changes you would like to see (I personally wouldn't mind shortening the amount of time for each fest, but hey, that's just me) or special themes you'd like the community to use, tell me about them.
Yes. So. Thanks for reading. Next post: Sign-ups for the next fest!

| deadline extension |
[10 Nov 2005|03:03am] |
|
The deadline for the Where Are They Now? challenge has been extended to November 30th, to make things work better in conjunction with LJSanta: L. J. Smith Secret Santa Project.
Since there isn't enough time to start a whole new challenge between the 19th and Dec. 1st, when assignments are sent out for LJSanta, the deadline for this fest will get extended until then--and ljsficfest will take a break for the month of December. So no excuses about having too many fics to write! Sign up for LJSanta now!

| Announcing LJS Fic Fest #5: Where Are They Now? |
[19 Oct 2005|12:15am] |
|
So, after a nice long break in which...I basically just kept forgetting to update, we have a new fest, as suggested by our own cathyrne: Where Are They Now?
All stories will be set in 2005, and will be written from a particular character's point of view (tense and perspective are mostly open to preference, but stories cannot be written as omniscient narratives). All characters will be aged according to when the books were originally published--for example, if Elena was 17 years old in 1991, she'd be 31 now, and should be written as 31. Of course immortal characters like vampires won't be physically older, but they will still be set in the present day nonetheless.
All fics for this fest will be due November 19th.
To sign up, comment with the name of the character you will be writing. No character can be used twice, so if your heart's set on a high-demand character, better sign up quick. Have fun!
